Bone Broth Basics

Bone Broth is a big part of my cooking regimen. Over the years, I have made it many different ways- Crock Pot, Instapot, on the stove. All of these are good ways to do it…. the key is to just do it. The method of cooking changes little more than the cooking time. I drink bone broth on many days and use it as a means of mitigating longer fasting periods.

Fall Wild Rice Soup

This recipe came from a deep need to do SOMETHING DIFFERENT with the leftover turkey from Thanksgiving. Good Lord, did we really need a turkey that big? It seemed like a good idea at the time….. I started with this beautiful recipe from GimmeSomeOven. I changed it based on what I had on hand and it was amazing! It makes a huge amount the way I did it. So you might plan to make this and freeze some or use it for an easy dinner party.

These are delicious and the texture is amazing. My whole family loves them! We call these a “free food” which means that the kids can eat them whenever they want- breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack. How to Beat the Holiday Fluff and Change the World, too!

You know there will be a next time. I know it, too. Hell, at this time of year, it might even be in the next few days. I know you are much too cool to be the loser pretending that those are the most flavorful carrot sticks you ever did eat. I know you have more sense than to try to convince yourself that some magical shake drink is going to “fill you up” so much that you won’t just cave at the party and pile hors d’oeuvres on top. I know that you are going to fill this season with all the things that make the Holiday Season awesome. So how can you arm yourself?

Journal 11/16/18- Lighting the Fire

I slashed the metal against the flint for what seemed like the ten millionth time. A single bead of sweat dripped down my nose and paused just long enough to catch a ray of sunshine before dropping onto my feeble pile. Spark, smoke, hope…. spark, smoke, hope….. for an hour now. I simply couldn’t tease a fire out of thin air. My hands were cramping from holding the flint and the tiny metal razor of my survival bracelet was cutting into my fingers.

Jake's Wednesday Musings: The Holiday "Freeze"

I’ve shared before the great affinity I have for my friend and co-worker, Jake Vandergriff, at Haka Fitness. He’s been pumping out some great blog posts that he calls his Wednesday Musings. 3 Reasons to Rethink Exercise

“I hate exercise, but I know I need to do it,” she said. “I just have never been able to stick with it.”

“Hey, no worries,” I replied. “You are definitely not alone. Maybe you should rethink exercise.”

It’s not the best sales pitch, especially since I have made the choice to own a gym and make a living (sort of) in the health and fitness industry. But I vowed long ago to give people truth, to empower people to find their journey in this whole mess. If you are struggling with your exercise gig, maybe it’s time to rethink exercise yourself.

10/15/18- Enough

The story inside my head says I’m not enough. The voice that talks to me says it’s never good enough. It’s never enough weight on the barbell or lean enough or fast enough. It’s never organized enough or brave enough or patient enough. It’s never disciplined enough or free enough or impulsive enough. It’s just never quite enough.

Journal 9/13/18- Dark Spaces and Deep Layers

I fear connection. To really connect with someone is so personal. Yet, to give that connection is the ultimate gift. Connection is a personal investment and a selfless gift. The more you give, the more deeply invested you become, and the more you risk emotionally.

I found this in my car yesterday. and just stared at it….
