Overview
Species Spotlight is an immersive, nature-based educational experience designed to introduce children to native Florida species and their habitats. Throughout the week, participants will explore different groups of native plants and animals while developing observation skills, ecological awareness, and a deeper appreciation for Florida’s unique ecosystems. Each day highlights a different category of native species and the habitats in which they thrive.
Core Components
• Daily focus on specific groups of native Florida species and their ecological roles.
• Exploration of Florida’s major native habitats and ecosystem relationships.
• Daily Story Time featuring nature-themed literature and guided discussion.
• Hands-on nature creations and art projects using natural materials.
• Interactive games and movement-based ecosystem simulations.
Learning Goals
• Develop foundational knowledge of native Florida species.
• Strengthen observation and classification skills.
• Understand the importance of habitat conservation.
• Build ecological literacy through hands-on exploration.
• Grow in curiosity, stewardship, and appreciation for the natural world.
Environment & Structure
This experience combines structured teaching, creative exploration, and active learning within a
safe and supportive church setting. Activities are age-appropriate and designed to cultivate wonder,
respect for nature, and environmental responsibility.
