7 Day Nature Challenge

Here in the US, we are in strange times. The COVID-19 has run through, or is running through, our country. People are staying home and isolating. Yesterday, they shut down our Natural spaces which means my kids and I can’t visit our woods. At first, I felt devastated. But after some thought, I realized that I wasn’t staying true to my own message.

“Nature is EVERYWHERE!”

And so, I am challenging my family to notice the teeniest, tiniest intricacies of Nature in our own neighborhood. I know that when we pay attention, we will find magic and mystery that we have never before noticed… and we will be amazed. Nature is just like that. Nature is AMAZING!

7 Day Nature Challenge

A wheel is a wonderful way to start to incorporate Nature Journaling practices. The tiny space feels less overwhelming than a whole blank page. You can use the wheel a million ways, too! THIS wheel has 8 spaces. You could do a wheel of 8 plants in your yard or 8 things you see on a hike or even 8 different birds that you see. It’s a great tool to give direction and focus. And you will quickly find that you will begin to look up information about the things you find. The learning will just continue on and on and on!

The 7 Day Nature Challenge Wheel can be printed off and used to challenge your family this week to notice things in your own yard or neighborhood. I like to put the Date on the outer rim of the circle. I also write little facts or stories around the edges and draw bubbles or arrows, etc. A finished wheel ALWAYS looks cool, too! The wheel has 8 spaces which means the last space is a great space to record a Haiku, a quote, a memory, an extra cool siting, or something else inspirational.

Be sure to hang you up your artwork and snap a pic. Post it on Social Media and tag Deep Roots Nature School. I’d love to see through your Owl Eyes!!
