Nourish Your Body

We all know we should nourish our bodies.

You know you should “Eat Healthy.” I really don’t think anyone is going to argue that an apple would nourish your body better than apple fritters, or that chicken nuggets would be surpassed by a roasted chicken with a side of veggies. You already know that fruits, vegetables, and lean meats prepared at home with healthy fats like avocado, coconut, and olive oil are good for you!

So where does NOURISHMENT go wrong?

The biggest issue people today face with understanding how to nourish their bodies is the constant complication of the facts...

Fact: Humans, in our current form, have been on earth tens of thousands of years.

Fact: For the entirety of that history, we have managed to feed ourselves…. Yes, even before we were able to buy food-like substances in literally any store. Do we REALLY need to eat something on the way out of Home Depot? Really?!?

Fact: Until the food revolution, particularly beginning in the 1970’s, people cooked meals at home, ate just 3 meals a day, and rarely consumed sweets or sodas. They certainly did not consider a sleeve of Oreos and a 20oz slurpee from the gas station a snack.

The REAL issue with what to eat is not a lack of knowledge but rather a complacency, an acceptance that somehow man has created foods that are healthier than the ones that served our species for all those generations. In reality, NOURISHING YOUR BODY is quite simple.

Just Eat Real Food.

If you wanted to complicate that, as we so often like to do… Just Eat Real Food in the closest to natural state that you can. Want chicken? Roast a whole one. Want yogurt? Try some full fat, plain yogurt and add a drizzle of honey and some berries. Want eggs? Eat the yolks too! The less steps it takes to get the food in its current state the better! If that’s a far cry from what you are doing right now, start with a tiny step and let the momentum build.

Here’s some suggestions for easy changes to nourish your body today:

  • Try a new vegetable every week, or a new recipe.
  • Pre-pack three healthy foods and make it a point to eat them in the day to “crowd out” other choices
  • Start reading the ingredients label on every single thing before you consume it. A lesson in awareness!
  • Switch just one food for its healthier counterpart: Flavored Non-Dairy Creamer for Organic half and Half, for example
