This quick break from the norm, the shake up of routine, and the excitement of adventure can turn around a tough day and change attitudes. Nature's Magic works every time!
Read MoreMy boat is barely afloat right now, lest you think I have it all (or anything for that matter) together right now. For the last 6 months, it has been a constant bailing of water that just doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I think you've probably felt this way before. Most people have, right?
Read MoreHe slipped right back into our bed and right back into our lives without much fanfare. Right back to work the next day. Damn. That's not how I wanted it to go.
Mark and I were never supposed to get married. We said so on our first date. I was divorced and cynical and he was an amazing bachelor.
Read MoreI could tell she was shocked, but the question was innocent.
I don't get upset about these sorts of questions. When you do life different than the norm, in any way, people are curious. They become fascinated and interested when you calmly share your story and perspective. This is the approach I try to take. I'm not trying to "win" anybody to my side or convince anyone my way is magical. Turns out, parenting isn't a religion.... or a war.
Read MoreDear pregnant client, you will be fine. I promise. Ignore the voices of the people around you and listen to your heart. Remember that every moment is fleeting, even the hard ones, and in a flash you will live in these moments rather than the present because YOU ARE “IN IT” right now. All in, 100%.
Read MoreI've been spending a lot of time assessing our business, Haka Fitness. We've been open just over 6 yrs, but in our current location almost four. The fitness industry is a tough one and the failure rate of "gyms" is very high. That we have made it 6 yrs is basically a miracle, statistically.
Read MoreI LOVE the Human Body with all of its mysteries and intricacies. New products and science are always coming down the pipe and it's hard to know what to read, where to spend your dollars, and when to focus your energy. I thought it would be helpful to show you just FIVE things I'm loving each month. Maybe a recipe, or a book, or an exercise or stretch..... Maybe a product, or a podcast, or a restaurant or venue. I'm giving you ONE THING in each of the areas of our Four Cornerstones or Health, plus a bonus. I hope you'll try them in your life and find a benefit for you!
Read MoreIt's also a grand adventure. At least, that's what I try to tell my kids. Most days, I am shocked at their willingness to embrace the constant changes. It makes me wonder where else in their lives am I so carefully managing the details that they are missing the chance to become even more fluid.
Read MoreThat all sounds so smooth when I write it out like that. It hasn't been. I have thirty something years of writing stories in my head and then breaking myself (and others) to make the storyline come true. Correction: to TRY to make the storylines come true.
Read MoreI've put a lot of thought into starting this journal. I don't think there is a choice anymore. It's so hard to tell what's real and what's curated in the world, while it's easy to feel like you are screwing the whole thing up. You're not. And neither am I.
Read MoreNature Awareness is getting a lot of buzz these days.
There is a good reason for that, too! The benefits of time spent in nature abound and include some pretty important stuff, like sensory development in children, activating the Default Made Network in the brain at any age, and simply working our ability to actually USE our senses. Bringing Nature Awareness activities into your home doesn't have to be some elaborate endeavor!
Read MoreI love chocolate.
My kids love chocolate. I also love foods that my kids eat with reckless abandon. I love them EVEN MORE when I know that they are putting all kinds of good stuff - like good fats and antioxidants- into our bodies.
Read MoreVeggies aren’t really THAT important!
There.
I said it.
We seem to have this idea that if we don’t consume broccoli florets, green beans, and (God Forbid) kale in mass quantities that we will die some horrible death. The reality is that humans have existed, and thrived, in the tundra and in the desert for millennia. Additionally, as hunters and gatherers a giant bowl of salad was impossible.
Read MoreYou CAN get better rest but you have to make it a priority, just as you would for a baby. You can take tiny steps, one at a time, and repeat them consistently, and before you know it you’ll be sleeping like a baby! Here’s some suggestions…
Read MoreAs much as I like adventure, I also love repetition. Right now, every Wednesday is pizza night. I use the Fat Head Pizza Crust ( the almond flour recipe). I always top it with homemade pesto, mushrooms, onions, roasted garlic and sliced tomatoes. Then I use whatever meat is leftover- grilled chicken, brisket, pulled pork. The key to Fathead Pizza Crust success?? A Pizza Stone and execution!!
Read MoreEveryone likes a satisfying and sweet treat sometimes. I like recipes that allow me to say YES when my kids ask, too. These peanut butter cups have a ton of good stuff going on!
